The series Empty spaces, deserted places deals with the human desire to fill the space; around and in between. As grounds are filled with man-made structures, land, water and air are filled with vehicles, white walls are filled with graffiti, the minimal and the abstractive are not the main characteristics of everyday life. Thus, photographic canvases are filled with images that need re- filling. There cannot be an empty space. Even in those deserted places.
Influenced strongly by the colors of the Agean Sea, the vibrant city life of Athens Amsterdam and Basel, the gloomy winters of the north and the majestic views of the Alps, SofiaG experiments with the photographic canvas. Very much like the changing experiences in her life, a strong dynamic is reflected in her work. Cities, seaside stories, mountains. Photographically, this exploration is translated to images that probe further than the surface. The ultimate aim is to alter the obvious with an infusion of sentiment and illusion.
