Explorers
Commissioned by EQ2- photographic investigation of Le Valais.
Yannic Bartolozzi set off on a mission. He decided he wanted to follow pilgrims of science into the white unknown. So he joined the men in white suits who chose to chase rays of sunlight in a land engulfed by fog. It is there that “man of science” has become “elite alpinist”. However despite survivor instincts acquired he still seems astray, lost in the vastness of the land and confused as he faces the vastness of the task which lies at hand. That never-ending quest for more knowledge. And so they persist, and continue to move forward further and further into the landscapes of the moon.
Caravan of interconnected Gortex pushing and pulling, sliding up and down, pikes and spikes-planting in mechanical super-synchronization. As their breaths exhale in pairs they fight the slope and progress physically in the name of science. One follows another echoing the previous crunch of snow. They are a team of individuals as the will to surpass the status of a follower remains.
In a way, the scientist and the photographer share an obsession for impossible subject matter. One that can be tamed, reduced, dissected and resurrected according to a master dream-vision. They are those who fit the world into a mobile device so we can hear the passing of time and watch repetitions of life’s cycles.
