Projektbeschrieb

The origin of this project is based on a collection of doll houses, mainly German and English, held by an architect of my acquaintance, comprising some fifty pieces, most of them built at the 1880s until the 1960s. The project has developed around the notion of the disturbing strangeness that emerges from the familiar and banal representation of a house and its interior. I photographed the interior of the houses, the idea being to work on the staging and shooting to make them realistic: using the play of light, the placement of an outdoor decor etc. Later, I came back to the sociological aspect of these objects. It is indeed the role of the woman, housewife and mother that is depicted in playing with these doll houses. I then tried to compare the external image of these women, culturally and socially, or through fashion, as viewed during the historical period of this collection,  with their psychological realities.
